If 611 (and others) can be mothballed because of a lack of interest it would seem you could at best hope for a flash in the pan on a K-4. 1522 still has seats available (at this writing) for her "farewell" trip. It is sad to say with all the money being spent around the country for rail preservation the star with the drawing power is sweet little Thomas ... dare we take a hint from this success and finally learn that there ain't enough fan support out there, you have to market to draw the public in.

I'm happy to say 611 was not mothballed for lack of interest. Far from that. NS and maybe mainly Mr. Goode had other ideas. A lot of money went into the Steam Program, but really, not that much profit was turned. One must remember Claytor's and a few others dream that sparked in the 60's. That eventually led to him becoming the man in the right place at the right time AND in the right office to have 611 and 1218 and others in the program. I highly doubt we'll ever see that again on a class 1 railroad.

1361 doesn't have the right resources, money and support it should have. Yes, there are very qualified individuals working towards the goal of returning her to her former glory, but it won't be soon. This is not the same industry it was 10 years ago. I think we can all agree here.
