Wayne James has done some great work for me and the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. One of the things he did for me was reproduction ALCO builder's plates in aluminum for our three different ALCOs including ex-Lehigh Valley Railroad 'Hammerhead' RS-3m #211 shown here. The plate here is held on with magnets to allow it to be applied for special events and then removed.

Thanks for the info and pic. I have a RS-3 I'm repainting right now that is missing it's builder's plates and want to get a set to complete it. It looks like Wayne has the correct pattern and I have the correct build number and date so it looks like he will be able to do what I want. I just got to see what the cost is.

The magnet is a wise idea I'll likely copy too. No reason to keep the plates on permanently when the loco is just sitting around.

Wayne James made up the reproduction builder's and number plate for Scott Lindsay when he was commissisoned to restore the BC&G locomotive on display in Gaithersburg, MD. Scott was very pleased as I made the recommendation and I checked out the plates when I was down there last November. They look very good. If someone makes up plates that are really good, please have reproduction cast somewhere on the back. These plates are made up with the best of intentions and then end up on ebay as originals!!!
