Post subject: OK, who's going to ARM!?!
PostPosted: Tue Sep 10, 2002 11:04 pm

I mailed my registration off today, y'all; who else will join me? I know Phil is going, because I owe him a refreshing cold beverage. I know Erik is going. I think Angel is going. Ok, who'll be next... think of all the fun, the fellowship, the learning opportunities. Come, on send it in! Jim

Dave, I am but one man. I passed your information to Steve Siegrest and he was sending out another batch of registration packets to those who were missed in the first mailing on Monday. You should receive it this week. Also, you can click on the link below to get the updated MATA website or you can go to the Age of Steam website for additional info at http://www.dallasrailwaymuseum.com/arm2002.html

I am but on man, but you can email me with additional questions at tnold@arsengrs.com if you have any additional questions about ARM.

I am looking forward to learning more about railway preservation and I look forward to renewing friendships and (inside joke) cooking some steaks on a glowing bed of coals.

Ya'll come!

Yeah Andy, but you are the one man who gets things done.

Must be nice all of you can go to these conventions! Our museum just took a 20% budget cut because of the poor economy and all monies for staff training and conferences was instantly wiped out.

Its a matter of priorities. Maybe those items are worth more to other museums and they have chosen to eliminate other line items instead.

Snappy response Dave. When you must keep the lights on, the priority becomes very clear to me.

I don't know about TRAIN, but if you took a survey at an ARM meeting I believe that a sizable number of the attendees are paying their own way. These are volunteers to see the value of the meetings and the networking that takes place there.

Sure some of the people are attending through support of their institution. I wish more of the museums would support and or encourage their people to attend these meetings (either ARM or TRAIN).

This from someone who has been going to ARM meetings for more than 25 years and paying his own way each year.

Or in my case, is looking forward to his second ARM meeting--paying his own way each time.

Well, as I found out last year, the majority of folks turn in their registrations in the last 2 weeks--early bird discount or not!

Hope to see many of y'all there! Perhaps Erik will arrange with Hume to get the RYPN credit card and open the bar for a rypn. meeting?

I thought it was an old ARM tradition that last year's hosts picked up the TAB...

Speaking of the tab, if the $100 per night charge at the Harvey is scaring anybody off, there is a very inexpensive Red Roof at the next exit up. Of course that $100 includes breakfast. Hungry? Maybe a shuttle of sorts could be patched together if it is popular.

I have been trying to get a registration form for TRAIN in Durango but both museums I have contacted to get a copy didn't get one either. And TRAIN is happening in election week. Wonder how populated it will be also considering Durango is about at the edge of the world in November.
