Saw this at a flea market today.

I've never seen a sander valve with "Notches" before. Is this a unique design, or is it common and just something I haven't noticed? The seller had no info on it at all. ("I think it might be for the air brakes?" LOL!)

As you rotated the handle, it would seat in each notch, but was also easy to continue to rotate it. I presume the notch you chose determines how much air flow passed through?

How many out put pipe connections are there? There were valves made that allowed one to have sand turned onto the #1, #1 and 2, #1, 2 and 3. The idea being to use only as much sand as needed rather than have them ALL going at once.

Perhaps this it's one of those.....

Jason, I didn't buy it, so I can't check, but from what I recall from looking at it, just two, which would mean one each front and back. It appeared, from a very casual inspection, to increase the air flow as you went.

I was *guessing* these used the air to actually propel the sand like a sandblaster, more air meaning more flow.

It could be the design you mentioned though, and I simply missed seeing the other connections. Unfortunately, I only got the one photo.

Bob, the orfice diameter increases with each notch off of center to allow increased air flow: first notch least flow - last notch full blast. There is also a "warning port" which keeps the engineer aware that the sanders are actuated. The button can be depressed to shut off the warning, which was probably just a hissing of air if dirty or whistle when new.

Thanks, Adam. That's exactly how I guessed it works, but if there's one thing I've learned in this business, it's that things aren't always what they appear to be. ;)

Our sanding valve on the 765 is similar to the one in the photo.
