By Jove, you couldn't have come up with a more "authentic" mixed train service if you had tried.

Weird, un-social hours. Limited capacity. Cash only. Terrible connections at the junction. Subject to the whims and vagaries of freight service.

The only thing left to make it more "real" would be to cancel the train, and have the conductor or station agent drive the paying passenger or three to Paradise in the back of his pick-up truck. A dollar extra for the rocking chair.

Ask and you shall receive. Mixed train. Cash fares only, exact change is appreciated.

Kelly,

Will riders be permitted to de-train at Paradise to watch or photograph the making up of the train?

I'm seriously considering taking half of a day off next week and coming out for that...

Yes, under the loving tutelage of "Shack." Don't stray too far from the caboose ...

Norfolk Southern has apparently been inspired by the Strasburg's new marketing effort; to wit:

Kelly,

Thanks for posting the links. The one at Esbenshade Rd is mine. I want to thank Strasburg for indulging us railfans with these freight ops and the opportunity to now ride them too. I went out yesterday with my father intending to ride. When we found out you had 7 loads there was a last minute change of plans. He rode while I chased. What an amazing sight watching 90 bring that train back to Strasburg. I plan to come out again to ride this. If you are in the area and have a free morning I strongly suggest heading out to enjoy this. As Sandy said it is very much a throwback to traditional shortline railroading.

Here are some of my keepers from yesterday.
