For what it is worth, I came across this wooden passenger car body thathad been built into a now abandoned house along US 75 west of topeka Kansas. Car is numbered 1025 and was last painted boxcar red by whatever railroad owned it. Carbody is all wood, no way for me to tell if it ever had a steel underframe or not.

Anyone have any idea what railroad this car might be from ans/or any idea of the history of the car? (I suspect it is an AT&SF car given the proximity to Topeka and the Santa Fe shops there) Useless trivia perhaps, but it would be neat to know what the car is before it returns to the earth from whence it came.

A couple more shots;

Santa Fe did have a wooden coach number 1025. The following information is from Coach, Smoker & Chair Car Genealogy by John B. McCall and published by the Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society in 2005.

13-window car with a 52'-0" body (less vestibules). This group was originally narrow vestibule when built in 1890-93 by Barney & Smith in the 1405-1428 series. Then in 1900 rebuilt to wide vestibule and renumbered 1005-1025. 1025 became a company service car in March 1927 with the number 199143.

Don't know if this matches what you observed.

Thanks for the information. Seems like this car is most likley AT&SF 1025, I will compare measurements next time I go by the car (which may be a while, it is 100 miles away).

I would like to drag it home, but there are some other projects (like finishing my house) that should probably come first!

By the photograph, it appears to be the passenger car south of Topeka on the south edge of Lyndon KS on the east side of US-75. Great shots of the interior! Have always hoped nothing happens to that car.
