Friends of C&TS have applied for $2.64 million from the federal Economic Development Administration to overhaul their locomotives. The whole application can be found at the link below. Good homework for anyone applying for such funding.

If you scroll down on the same Friends of C&TS news page, you'll see they have also received other grants for advertising, repairs to locomotive 484, and asbestos removal from engines 483 and 492 (the latter completed in August).

Let's hope they get the money in time to get a couple of engines ready for the 2003 season.

"The Friends" did NOT apply for the grant. The CTSRR Commission applied for the grant.

"This proposal, captioned “C&TSRR Locomotives – Overall Project,” is being submitted jointly
by the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR Commission, an agency of the states of Colorado and New
Mexico, and by the Friends of the C&TSRR,the railroadÂ’s 501(c)(3)museum support group."

That is correct, but the MONEY goes to the Commission. The Friends are involved because they will assist in providing matching funds.
