Regardless of all else, atleast she got some well needed attention. Dis they replace the abestos with anything else or just jacketing?

I believe there is some kind of foam insulation under the jacketing, but someone more knowledgeable than I could say for sure.

Wood blocks retain water. Plastics are not as hydroscopic. I used wood on the Glover project, styrofoam sheets ripped into 3 inch wide boards on the decapod - I like the foam much better.

This is about the only kind of foam I actually don't mind seeing on this board.

Styrofoam strip spacers are used to keep the jacket away from the boiler and provide airspace. Before the jacketing is applied, the actual boiler shells are being rust converted then painted with high quality paint to prevent further deterioration of the boiler sheets.

She has a Wootten firebox, which is designed to burn anthracite waste coal (culm).

Yes, because culm generally burns poorly compared to bituminous. She'd run just fine on any decent coal.

True, but her firebox is somewhat of a hold over from the 2-8-0 she used to be. By the time the T-1's were created, the Reading was apparently burning a mix light on anthracite. One could write a dissertation on the coal mixes used by the anthracite roads in the last 20 years of steam. One could. Not me, but someone. WIth a lot of time on their hands.

Yeah, that just required more words. The T hogs pretty much burned Bituminous in service. They *could* burn culm.

Howdy everyone, A quick 2124 question, does anyone know what sort of parts the Reading sent to Steamtown in the two boxcars with the 2124 back in the early 60's? Where most off the 2123? Thanks everyone - David Notarius, London UK, ex New Hope Pa
