I have the second edition - The only obvious thing is an errata correction posted with a sticker inside the front cover.

Continuing the thread on this subject, there's an interesting blurb on the 5AT website regarding the availability of this book:

http://5at.co.uk/index.php/news/24/269/ ... Steam.html

Basically the author (Wardale) says he's not going to go through the hassle of printing another edition because it takes him too much effort to proof-read it. He has, however, given permission for the book to be reproduced through an on-line publisher using scanned copies of the book's printed pages.

The 5AT group is apparently presently searching for someone with experience with doing this. If you have any info, please contact them through the link above.

Wonder if we could get Jos Koopmans to join in?

Received a copy of this fantastic book today from a fellow Interchange user.

Much thanks again.

Stunning book, at least a year's worth of reading to digest.

Congratulations, Jeff. Now- get back to reading! :-)

Yes, I saw the ad in the Classifieds - and I bought it.

A different aside:

Is there a reader here willing to DONATE a copy to the Railway Society of South Africa?

I have a massive shipment of SAR magazines being prepared for them, and I'm still awaiting word as to whether or not THEY have a copy. If not, well, one more book isn't going to kill this 220-Kg shipment.......

Traction fans run into similar situations with Interurbans Specials. There's a demand out there, but not enough to warrant a press run.
A rather morbid source of railway books is estate sales; as we old timers head off to ride "Life's Railway to Heaven", collections will be sold off, or donated to historic groups. If the local train museum library already has a copy of, for example, Lucius Beebe's Mixed Train Daily and the late Freddie Foamer's family donates his copy along with other books, the librarian may add it to the used book sales table. This is less likely with books published in other countries that are very scarce here in the US, but in the words of "Fats" Waller, "One never knows, do one?"

Does anyone know where the first edition's errata corrections are posted?

I'd like to print out a copy and place it in my version for whomever owns it in the future.
