The Delta Queen's sister ship, the Delta King, is still around in Sacramento and her story is told in the accompanying link. The boat has been seriously altered, but the story of her troubles is much more daunting than the Delta Queen's (she was sunk for 15 months), and her mere existence goes against all financial logic. Reading the whole article, especially the latter half, makes me wonder if DQ would have a better chance in Sacramento.

So, does anyone on this forum have both the will and the means to contact that new owner and try to save the power plant in a museum, or at least in storage?
I think the equipment by itself has reasonable historical value.
But I, like most, don't have the wherewithall to do anything about it.

With all the fuss being raised by fans of the DQ I expect that Mr. Heller would not be taking appeals for saving the engines.

Take a few minutes to read Travis' detailed history of the situation in the link at steamboats.org. Sadly, the current situation is difficult at best for gaining any ground with preservation. I stayed on the boat earlier this year. The staff is dedicated and doing their best to keep the current lease operation going. The boat is worth a visit.
