Does anyone know anything on the ex D&H RS2 that was part of this same group and last know to be in a similar status? I don't see anything on above forum link.

Michigan Southern #977
Ex D&H 4020, LI RR 1572, then 1520, ex D&M, then to Morris Leasing. Now owned by a scrap company. For sale for $80,000.

I hope someone is able to do something, there's no many RS-2s left anymore. Even if all they ever become is static displays it's better than losing them forever.

If they do unfortunately get cut up then there's always plenty of groups looking for spare Alco parts.

Which of these (469, 974, 975, 977) have had their short hood "chopped" and which still have the high short hood?

Also, the 977 is apparently at a scrap yard and not with the others. What scrap yard and where?

Thanks.

974 and 975 are Morrison Knudsen rebuilds with the 251 engine. 469 is an original D&M RS-2, one of the very early RS-2's built. My understanding is that 469 and 974 are in Saginaw and will be "scrapped last" on a timetable unknown to me, but "rather soon" was my impression. 975 is in Alpena.

466 also appears to survive at another railroad, seen in this photo sequence (black over red) along with a Lehigh Valley Alco S1.

Sorry, bring back an old thread. Someone bright it back recently on the Railroadfan.com Board.

Help! Save Detroit & Mackinac /LSRC ALCO RS2 #469 from scrap
http://railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19629

RRFAN user Jumpin posted the following:

"Good Day Rail Fans. I work for Waymore Power Co. we own the 469.
We have held out on scrapping it, but the time grows near that it may be scrapped too. With the state of the economy we are looking to try and find it a home, rather than scrap it.

At this moment I am getting quotes of it’s worth in scrap. We will not part it out, we prefer a complete sale!
Any that are interested you may email me at alcoinfo@waymorepower.com http://www.waymorepower.com

Best Regards

Anybody here want to preserve an ALCO RS2 diesel locomotive?

RS2 No. 466 is gone..scrapped last December.

I maintain the LV survivors list, and I can confirm that the LV Alco S4 (not a S1), Michigan Southern #66, was scrapped in December 2011. My source, who personally witnessed the unit being scrapped, said 4 units total were scrapped..

Google brought up the four units:

#66 S1 Unknown origin (actually a S4, nee LV 166)
#466 RS2 ex D&M 466
#977 RS3m ex D&M 977 exx LIRR 1572
#7804 RS3 ex D&M 4094

From the Alco Diesels list:

1 RS-2 469 Update Sun Oct 7, 2012 10:02 am (PDT) . Posted by: "Jim" trackboss Good news! The Southern Michigan Railroad Society's board met. The Society is eager to save #469 and provide a permanent home for it. Since SMRS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all donations toward this project will be tax deductible. A special fund has been set up, but hold that thought, because we would prefer you work through an online fundraiser, as it will make less office work for SMRS (and lets you watch as fundraising progresses!)

So, we have a destination nailed down. Now it's a matter of coordinating with owner, mover and donors.

SMRS has owned its railroad for 27 years, it now has a significant parcel of land for a future museum site, and the next big investment will be an IRM-style car-barn, to get equipment out of the weather.
