The air pumps are a Knorr Bremse (German) type made under licence in numerous Eastern European countries. They are simple on the steam side and compound on the air side. So lighter (250kg approx) and simpler than a cross compound type. There are a good number of other pump designs which have the same sort of layout. The "Polish" type (as they tend to be known) on 6046 is common on UK mainline locos retro-fitted with air brakes.

RE: Knorr-Bremse air compressors--

Are these currently made/available? What CFM (or metric equivalent) rating to they have?

This looks like a good way to increase compressor capacity on smaller steam locomotives that use one 9 1/2" Westinghouse compressor.

A real quick online search came up with a cross-compound Knoor-Bremse, with lots of cooling fins that a Westinghouse doesn't have. Either one would look out of place to my eye on an American steam locomotive, though. You 'could' cover the bottom two air cylinders with sheet metal, but that would affect the cooling. A pair of singles would be a more aesthetically pleasing upgrade to any small engine.

Hi Guys, just got confirmation that, yes, the S160's at Zebiec were scrapped. Still a few available in Greece, but not for long! Dave
