Do any of you know who is claming to be the; "The Pyle-National Co./Pyle-National Electric Headlight Company"? They claim founding in 1897, March 5, 1897 to be exact.

The last time I checked, the K2 (Modern K240) turbo generators were owned by an offshore oil rig company, and the headlights were still owned by Trans-lite, yet here they both are shown on the facebook page.

Maybe they also own the 180 (or so) year old; "Baldwin Locomtive Works" that is also based (I read) in Denver now.

The domain was registered this past June but it's a Domains-By-Proxy registration so one cannot see who it really is.

Pyle-National remains a registered trademark of Amphenol Corp. It was renewed in 2011.

The requirements of appliance rebuilding in this industry are finite. Bernie Watts and Backshop Enterprises OWNS THE RIGHTS, prints, material specifications, machinery and tooling for the manufacture of Pyle National Generators..... I have no knowledge of the ancillaries. However, the company listed has not manufactured new headlights as the FB page may seem to indicate. The illuminators are available from John C. Ernst, the headlight bulb on the page is a product of the manufacturer which does or did list in trainline(the name escapes me). Mr. Watts's headlight bulbs are the only true locomotive headlight bulbs available in terms of filament design.

It is an EXACT copy of a Pyle National illuminator, the "funnel" is somewhat larger than the average used on locomotives but can easily be cut down (or off) to accommodate specific requirements. It is rated for 120 however it will be more than happy to accept 32v d.c..


Above is true in terms of proprietary ownership for westinghouse air compressor and related components.

There is not enough demand in this industry to support two such businesses (IMHO), lets not dilute the business and compromise the stability of one of our greatest resources.

We did already talk about this, I guess it was so not newsworthy that it escaped my memory!

I was just posting a note quickly (late last night) to make sure everyone was aware of this, so as to avoid it.

Here is another note, that K-240 turbo-generator line drawing on that facebook site was a gift from me to them. That was a gift to the young guys, just before I loaned them one other thing, that was of about $1000 replacement value, and it was never returned. I was told that I "should never have loaned it to them" and that I "was never going to get it back nor be reimbursed for it". I have the emails, if anyone ever wants to read them just ask and you will receive.

Don't let the appearance of youthful good intentions fool you, they got me for a lot!

So, is someone actually making PN fittings appropriate for steam locomotives?

And is anyone making parts for the MO-6 generator? the turbine blades on 6167 were badly damaged by corrosion.

Bernie Watts at Backshop has rebuilt MO6 and other non-K2 types, I'd try him first.

Also, 6167 needs covers for most if not all of her handrail junctions, as well as a few of the LC-6 light sockets. Our comrades in Sarnia need a variety of of parts, such as the quick disconnect type fittings that run along the ceiling of the cab for gauge lights, as well as the small light switches used in the cab. Plus the plug that connects the engine and tender wiring.

Google tells me that it is "under construction."

Bernie Watts (Backshop Enterprises, Inc.) has an advertisement in the latest (Fall, 2012) issue Railway Museum Quarterly/Trainline. It shows a whole line-up of Pyle National Dynamos with the notation that he has "over 400 different parts in stock all made to original drawings."
