A friend of mine with NS mentioned a possible move of a preserved electric locomotive in the northeast, he was wondering if knew which one. Has anything up that way changed ownership recently? Has someone managed to actually give away a GG1 ?

He's probably heard about the fact that the Henry Ford Museum has claimed, but still not successfully found a way to move, one of the semi-derelict duo at Cooperstown Jct., NY, ex-Leatherstocking Chapter NRHS.

Sandy, that's ancient news. From what I understand, no one wanted to touch that engine because of extremely bad frame cracks. This is something that has come up recently.

In my dreams it would be one of the NYC electrics, but even if they could move on thier own wheels the NS would not likely be invoved.

Just a shot in the dark but what about that E33 that was supposed to go to IRM?

I'm assuming the E33 has ended up in the same position as the GG1. The Class 1 railroads refuse to put it D.I.T. because of its shape. Its a shame as it in my opinion should be a centerpiece of the RMNE collection. I'm not trying to call out anyone or offend at the RMNE or any other organization, but the only choice for it is to fix it up to the point of the Class 1s accepting the move to the IRM or the locomotive being given at least a coat of paint to stabilize the deterioration. If I'm not mistaken it also has a large hole in the side behind the cab from where the transformer used to be.

The E33 however looks much more like a traditional diesel than a GG1, so its problems regarding shipment on its own wheels would be the same that any other out of compliance locomotive would have. Wheel condition, alignment control couplers, is the brake system in date, etc.

With a GG1 a car knocker would take one look and say "what the hell is that???"
