I believe this equipment is located at the Toledo, Lake Erie & Western Railroad near Grand Rapids, OH.

NKP Caboose is NKP #466
Chessie/C&O is C&O #903667
Troop (Sleeper??). If I recall correctly, I think it is a Detroit, Toledo & Shortline Railroad Troop Sleeper...Dont take my word for it.

I have no idea what prices they are asking.

Why does nobody ever put a price on equipment if they're offering it for sale?

Wow, prices went up from when I inspected C&O 903667 last year. The equipment when I went and looked at it last year was in good to fair shape. The Chessie cabin still has it's wheel connected gen from it's 1950's rebuild. Interior looked fair though I was unable to inspect the inside. Would make a great addition to a shortline museum or someone's back yard.

I was just in Ohio a month ago and stumbled upon the collection. I have posted photos on my site.

I hope they can be saved, a real shame to destroy heritage equipment as they are not making anymore :-(

We could possibly offer storage for use space down on the Clinton Terminal RR in NC.
I agree that it is a shame to let heritage pieces scrapped. However, as everyone should know, the costs of moving equipment is what makes most easier to scrap than save.
Contact us at www.clintonterminalrailway.com
Thanks,

I have looked into getting them moved. Merkle Heavy Movers wants $10,000 for each car. If I would move all 3 cars it would be $8,500 each. I didn't feel this was a fair price.

I had to have insurance coverage plus pay for guard vehicles, all highway permits and pay for any damage that would occur during transit, plus do all the maintaince such as disconneting the brake rigging. All they had to do was load and drive it 30 miles. I even had a crane at one end of the move. The say they could do the job because things are slow now, wonder why.

railroad -

I got to looking at the photos that "railpast" (Walter of Beachville, Ontario) took on the TLE&W last month and need a bit of clarification. Walter labelled all of the photos as Grand Rapids, Ohio, but I think that some of them may have actually been taken in Waterville, Ohio. Certainly ALCO #5109 in front of the Waterville depot was taken there. I am going to assume that the cars you are trying to sell (Chessie caboose 3667, NKP caboose 466, the old Troop Sleeper and the white boxcar) are located there too, since this is apparently the cars that are isolated and thus in danger of being scrapped. Do I have that right? But what about 5109? Is she in danger too? Or is she going to be part of the new shortline operation?

I am also going to assume that the rest of the photos that Walter took are actually in Grand Rapids. Again, am I right? If so, then all of this other equipment must then be "safe". What about the two buildings shown with "railroad doors"; one has a single door and the other has three doors. Are these in Grand Rapids too? Are these owned by the TLE&W? If so, why isn't some of this equipment inside those buildings, or is there other TLE&W equipment already inside? I see that the Detroit Edison 0-6-0 has had some work done to it, and it is looking better. Outside storage however, can't be a good thing.

Appreciate if you could provide the answers. Thanks!

Les

5109 was in Waterville, but since has been moved to TLE&W home rails and is safe, along with a NKP #475 caboose, flatcar and another Alco. Everything else is in Grand Rapids, Ohio.

The only things for sale is the Chessy caboose, #466 NKP caboose and a Troop sleeeper (carrier) these are in Grand Rapids, Ohio.

The white car you not sure which that is. Could be one of the tool cars. in GR.

I am still loking into getting them moved, if a heavy mover can be fouind and at a reasonable costs. I have a couple potential buyers interested.

Sorry the doors you spoke of is probably the warehouse in GR. Not own by TLE&W.

202 has had some work , but nothing that would pass FRA inspection. Just painted up to look nice.

Hope that answers your questions if not please rerepost and I'll try to answer soon. Thanks

I thought TLE&W home rails was in Grand Rapids? Isn't the portion on the other side of the river to Waterville now leased to a short line? This equipment has been sitting on TLE&W trackage ever since I last saw them in 2002ish and I thought that since the TLE&W is not running trains that this equipment would form the nucleus of their grand rapids rail museum.

Yes Grand Rapids started out as home base. But most of the members are from the Toledo area and most thought there was more of a chance of more ridership. Since we had track damage culvert cavein, bridge needing ties, a crossing being damaged by snow plows. Although this is the best section and most beautiful view of the whole line.

Since we had the lease with NW then. The tourist RR did a lot of work to bring the depot up to city codes. New roof, new restrooms, new paint inside and out, plus adding heat. It all basicly has to do with money.

Yes the whole 10 miles was leased to a freight RR, even though they can not get into GR. Car storage was one way they think money can be raised to make repairs.

The only trackage and property in GR they own is the main track and one siding. one three lot and they just bought another lot where the original depot sat near the nursing home.
