Omar, if you compare drinking Moxie and getting gored by an angry Maine moose, well, I suppose the Moxie would go down a bit easier.

Seashore has a Moxie Day. They give it away! I did not partake.

Here's a sign a block from the Salisbury, NC Amtrak Station.

Sheesh!! Jim Wrinn posts a note about an opening at Kalmbach that some would consider a dream gig, and what does he get here? Discussions on BBQ, Cheerwine, and Moxie, with a bit of Maine moose thrown in!! Whooee!!

I wonder what's going through his head as he looks at these posts!

I wonder what the late David P. Morgan would have thought.

I can easily imagine the late Lucius Beebe's expressions of horror and disgust!! Whoo boy, what he would have to say!! It would be fun reading, though!!

Hope Mr. Wrinn laughs at these comments as much as the readers here do!!

Perhaps it's simply the frustration of knowing that few of us write as well as DPM, or have the utter social refinement of Beebe, and therefore are out of the running for the Trains job.... Or maybe we're too old to change careers!

I think Jim needs an Australian or a Brit....already have the Yank stuff covered. All the Yanks I know that would be perfect for the job are already working there or Jim has heard their refusals already.....

I would certainly not dismiss the entire food-and-drink discussion this has evolved into, considering that for decades now the railfan press has, through its editors, somewhat intricately interwoven a direct relationship between the hobby and food.

Jim Boyd: Taco Bell (well before its nationwide spread), Steak 'n Shake.....
Mike Schafer: One room of his house is an authentic Steak ' Shake booth, and he is the self-proclaimed "president" of the Steak 'n Shake Fan Club, and has attempted to eat at every location....
Steve Barry: In & Out Burger, Skyline Chili, Cheerwine, Ale-8....

Read this article. Enough said.

I think it is perfectly acceptable to associate railfans and railroaders (and the intersection of the two) with food.

There's always discussion of where to eat in both circles.

And how to cook your favourite beastie on your favourite beastie. (Manifold cooking).

Also, I can never get gored by a moose, the antlers are way too high. Trampled perhaps, never gored.

Would love to have that job -- have written works for hire for several publishers, self-published three novels, built an extensive rail-related web site with a lot of written commentary, plus other web sites with my literary work. But I moved most recently in 2009 and don't care to move again any time soon! Oh, and I'm 74.

"Having to move" would be a deal-breaker for a lot of us, although I would guess that most houses in Wisconsin have basements. (cue up George Carlin's A Place for My Stuff.)

I would be willing to bet it might make him a little homesick!

Yeah, that's more of a deal-breaker for me applying than anything for me. I'm from Florida originally and have lived in WA state since 1998 (where the winters aren't nearly as cold as people who've never been to WA would think, considering how far north it is). After many gloomy winters where you rarely ever see the sun for months at a time, I'm looking to move somewhere far warmer in the future. My current employer might be moving our entire office to another consolidated location in a few years, but thankfully none of the proposed areas are that far north, all of them are in warmed climes than Wisconsin...
