Cliffside 110 coming north

Thanks to dave Dick for sending these pictures of Cliffside 110 being moved on her own wheels from the display track location to the yard at Stone Mountain, and the lowboy in position for the load out to North Carolina. I wish I could have been there, but changes in scheduling at my work kept me away........

I'm sure more will be posted in the future.

Not to hijack the thread, but I thought that Stone Mountain had also donated the two American's, but one of the 4-4-0's is obviously still there.

Southeastern Railway Museum accessioned one a few years back. There's a preservation group working on acquiring the other one to return to its native territory.

Don't ask about the caboose. We don't know.

The 110 is indeed making its way north as this is posted. We expect the locomotive to be in Bonsal, NC sometime tomorrow (6-Feb-2013). The tender should be in Bonsal by the end of the week. We used trucker Dave Tunison who was responsible for moving our own engine 17 to West Virginia for Train Festival 2010 and who also moves the 75 and 126 for the Gramlings. Dave has been great to work with, especially considering how difficult it is to get anything into or out of the Stone Mountain Railroad.

The caboose previously co-located with the 110 will be retained by Stone Mountain. The other 4-4-0 remains in Stone Mountain at this time as evidenced by the posted picture. The New Hope Valley Railway is not involved with this locomotive and is not in a position to comment on its disposition.

The Stone Mountain Memorial Association has been very supportive of the NHV and have been amazing to work with. I can't say enough about them, their public safety officers and railroad crews. All fantastic people who are a pleasure to work with. If you haven't visited stone mountain, you are missing out on a wonderful experience.

According to their FB page, the 110 has safely made it to Bonsal.

Indeed, but we still have to go back and get the tender. We should have engine and tender back together this weekend. Not sure how many of her other parts will go back together this weekend, the volunteers are exhausted after 8 days of work and we'll be taking a couple weeks off to recharge.

This is great! Thanks for posting the photos. I have had a thing for this sweet little lokie ever since I saw her at the Swamp Rabbit RR in SC a long, long time ago. Glad to see she's back home and in good hands.

Thanks Wayne. The Steam Team at NHVRR really pulled this one off in style. I regret I couldn't contribute much apart from writing the proposal due to family and work issues, hope to be able to contribute more towards the ongoing work and documentation. I'm a better project and mechanical guy than negotiator, anyhow.....we have a lot of talent in out volunteer base and they did a great job.

But first we have the hardest job of all to do - raising funds. There's already a dedicated fund started, in case anybody is feeling generous, and a real promotion is sure to be in the works soon from our marketing people.

Wouldn't be surprised if the tender is home by now, too.
