[quote="Kevin Gilliam"][quote="buzz_morris"]The fugitive wreck looked great as a well-done, full scale simulation of a buss vs. train accident ala Hollywood.
If you rent the DVD freeze the point where Harrison Ford jumps from the buss, you can easily see it’s a blue screen matt shot.
With CGI getting as good as it is I doubt you will see many more “real” crashes like this staged.

Story here.

Just to clear things up here, the wreck itself was very real. The shots with Harrison Ford during the wreck (including the "chase" with the derailing engines behind him) were obviously blue-screen and done after the fact as there was no way they were going to risk injuring the star of the movie in a very expensive sequence that couldn't be done a second time and had many ways to go very wrong very quickly.

Still don’t think pushing the shell of a U18B and a few cars off the track into a ravine qualifies as a train accident. Although it is a Movie Crash.
Thought of a better one, Lawrence of Arabia.
Halfway through this clip is the Hollywood staged wreck where a steam engine, under its own power, is coaxed off the rails.

Most of this story fits topic as it follows what’s left of the Hejas Railway in Saudi Arabia.

Regarding the question of "relevance"--this discussion sounds like the sort of "bull session" that can start after the locomotives are tied down and are cooling down or turned off, or the streetcars have their trolley poles down and hooked, and the substation has been de-energized. It's the land-based version of sailors telling "sea stories" and a way to wind down after a busy day in the shop or on the demonstration railway. No harm, and if you're not interested, one mouse click will move you elsewhere.

Among the scenes

The General

Breakheart Pass

Unstoppable

Silver Streak

And many, many more....

At the risk of too many negative comments, let us also recall the wreck scene from "Hugo," which is a mighty good movie, I might add:

Now, if only we could put together a great railroad movie or TV series that wouldn't be a derailment of the week. . .

Instead of posting a new topic I'll just put this here. Below are links to THREE compilations of movie train wrecks. Over 40+ movies and nearly 112 minutes of wreck action.

My favorite train crash is the "Denver and Rio Grande" filmed on the Silverton Branch with authentic engines and coaches.

Anybody know if You Tube has it

Another favorite movie is "Ticket to Tomahawk".

Does You Tube have it.

Thanks

I would like to know which movie crashes are real and which ones are fake, I know a few of them are real and a few are obviously fakes but some are hard to tell.

Raising this out of the back posts just to say I'm redoing my the Movie Train Wrecks and Crashes series on Youtube. The videos will be reworked with about 5-8 wrecks per video with information regarding how the wreck was staged and other various information spread throughout the videos.

Episode 1: This one is slightly rough as I was trying to figure out how to rework the format and features Disaster on the Coastliner, Breakheart Pass, Broken Arrow, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr, and Back to the Future III.

Episode 2: This one came out much smoother and has alot more information to go along with the examples. Features Under Siege 2, The Bullet Train, The Train Killer, Horror Express, The General, and The Lone Ranger.

Hopefully I can get one of these out once a week or biweekly.

And there's always "Denver and Rio Grande" with two narrow gauge engines collding head on, augmented by cases on dynamite on the pilots. No cgi, no blue screen, one take only.

they used 2 engines that were about to be scrapped, so lets run them together and watch the fireworks...

The lead unit in the film, 4070, still exists as a different number delelict in Canada.

The second unit, 4082, was scrapped in 1985 after being retired by CP Rail.
