So Steve, think we can safely put this program in to the "successful" category now?

I sure hope the response has proven to demonstrate how to gain public interest in a positive way to railroad management - not only NS, but to all the operators.

FYI: Chattanooga to Attalla, Roanoke to Walton, and Roanoke to Lynchburg are now SOLD OUT.

Afternoon trips Asheville to Old Fort are SOLD OUT, and the Saturday morning trip has very limited availability.

NS 42 "Tennessee" & 46 "New Jersey" have arrived.

How's the 630 running? I certainly enjoyed riding the trip from Bristol to Radford last weekend. I was just watching some youtube videos from this past weekend and it sounds like you all were running with an N&W Class J whistle. Is that correct?

It seems like NS is going out of their way to make the trips successful:
Low ticket prices (in fact they seem too low - not that I'm complaining)
Regular trains waited on the steam train instead of vice versa
Quick paced (it seemed like we ran at the 40mph limit most of the day)
Keeping on schedule

It's TVRM's J whistle, which 630 wore a lot here in the 80s. I've not heard anything bad performance wise so far from the guys on the road.

More than 1,300 passengers rode 21st Century Steam excursion trains out of Roanoke over the weekend while traveling in comfort, safety, and ahead of schedule. Thanks to everyone who made it possible within Norfolk Southern, including those employees and guests who enjoyed this unique opportunity to experience their company's corporate pride. Norfolk Southern's "Roanoke Stars" were shining brightly.

And Locomotive 630 is putting on a great show!
