I am starting a new thread to draw attention to the auction in hopes that it will catch the eye of someone who might save a few things.

There is no auction on the first. You have to understand that the reporter for the Times has already been dressed down once by his editor for reporting the townships (mayor's) side of the argument and bending the truth. There will be an inspection only on the first.

Later!

Gentlemen:

This submission is intended to provide technical information and guidance for the pending acquisition and safe removal of my former Rock Island PS-1 boxcar from Pemberton, New Jersey. Simply put, I donated the car to the wrong people. As sale by court ordered auction is imminent, it is reasonable for future bidders to have good information moving forward.

The car was restored and equipped to support railway restoration. It is mechanically sound, well coated (painted) and insulated with ample storage and work areas as well as a few creature comforts. The car was equipped with a built-in work bench, table saw, drill press, and bench grinder. Storage lockers and shelves are designed to preclude damage during car movement. In addition, large interior pocket doors allow effective heating via kerosene or electric heater for year-round comfort. The car can be locked to preclude unauthorized access.

To move the car to its present location, brake rods, valves, and air reservoirs as well as foot stirrups were removed and stored to facilitate trucking activities. The car is easily loaded on flatbed with a large forklift equipped with sufficient counterweighs – crane loading in not needed. The car’s trucks can be moved on separate flatbed. Knuckles were removed to facilitate loading, but this detail is dependant on the buyer’s rigging company. Additional logistic information can be provided, as needed.

If the moderators of our website allow, I will post additional technical information for the car, our restoration efforts, share some of its history, and provide photographs on a separate post for consideration of future bidders moving forward. Materials provided were prepared several years ago – please bear with me as I pull items form archives and format them for presentation, herein. As always, should anyone have questions or need additional information, I will accommodate as best I can.

Many thanks,

Jim Kovach, P.G.

Have you considered contacting Mr. Fiorilla and asking for the car back? I think considering you donated the car specially equipped and outfitted to someone who was unable to use it, perhaps you would feel best if you could re-gift it to someone more able to use it. I don't mean to spend your money and time, or if you have a place it could be stored, if I was in your shoes I would, in the end, feel best if it finally ended up with someone who could appreciate it.

Thank you for the suggestion – did not know it was possible.

Professional responsibilities have kept me tied-up – did not know of the gentlemen until today. Our original file is intact so I feel comfortable with the facts. We have also received considerable support today – thank you all. I’ll talk it over with my boss tonight. In the meantime, if someone can offer guidance on this matter, perhaps we can all learn for it.

Best regards

Ah, so we are to trust... The Trust... for being savvy to what's going on.

Clearly, the RyPN April Fool's event has officially begun.

Nomination for quote of the year on RYPN. Mr. MacDowell "gets it"!

The only April Fool around here is you. I cannot for the life of me figure out why you do not believe the truth when you hear it from any one at the PTHT but you will take the word of newspaper reporter. But you are perpetuating a string of negative comments to every post I make. So you need to tell me what I did in a previous life to irritate you because I doubt you and I have ever met. I know this won't change anything so you just keep on posting disparaging comments. I think there are many here that would be disappointed if you were to stop.

Later!
Mr. Ed

OK so the auction itself will not be on the first. But if there is an auction preview then there is going to be an auction at some point!!!

It may or may not be an auction in the sense of a sheriff's sale or foreclosure, an auctioneer pounding a gavel, and someone paying the cashier and loading the stuff in the boot of the car.

But if you go, you are there to present a proposal, most likely involving money (be it to some receiver or just to the truckers, crane operators, whatever), and the removal of the equipment from the property one way or the other--intact or in small pieces, as a lot or as multiple lots, whatever. The offers are to be considered, and actions appropriate to the dispersal of the equipment will most likely be authorized if/when said offers are accepted.

Although I'm very confident it won't happen, I'd love to see the situation if someone were to step forward and say "I'll bring in a crew and restore all the equipment, landscape the property, and make it a nice museum; here's my proven net worth of $63 million, and here's a cashier's check for $250,000 to prove I mean business...." Then, and only then, would we figure out whether this is really a "land grab" conspiracy by a mayor (as repeatedly alleged) or this whole kerfuffle is a visceral reaction to "bad neighbors" with eyesores....

I think it is likely to be a blend of the visceral bad neighbor eyesores and the futuristic vision of the mayor and others.

These photos (scroll down) were posted on this board earlier in threads about the collection.

I find the Camp Dix 1938 motor car, shown nicely in the above link, the single most significant piece in the collection, with the 2-bay hopper car and long gondola holding second and third place in some order. Mixing this thread and the EBT hopper thread, if someone wanted to make that standard and narrow gauge display, the two cars are readily available in this small window of time!
