The other thread popping up inspired me to take a ride over to the car's more recent location and it was gone. I was hoping it had found a new owner. I snapped a few photos and then ran into a gentleman who knew all about it, having been involved in the sale of the land it stood on (the reason it had to go).

He explained there were many interested parties and they would have given the car away but when moving costs were determined there were no takers. (Remember this is a wood bodied, steel-sheathed car that had near zero potential for operations. Maybe on a tourist operation but what good is a private/office car there? It could certainly never be Amtrak-certified.) Anyway, it was scrapped in place. So far as he knows, even the trucks went to scrap.

BTW, it was still owned by the Thompson family and was on a parcel of land they owned, same as the old vineyard property where it previously resided. John E. Thompson is alive and living in San Diego.

I mentioned the business about the vestibule shower and guy who informed me of the car's demise said there was also a shower nozzle on the outside of the car next to the kitchen. Talk about exposed.
