I was browsing through some old DVD's and i found my Steam 98' DVD from a collection and I saw the triple header with Northern Pacific 328, Soo Line 1003, and Soo Line 2719.

Last I heard from NP 328 is that she was under a heavy overhaul at Jackson Street Roundhouse. Anybody know what the current status of 328 is and how the overhaul is going?

Use the "search" feature for the board, this has been discussed, possibly within the last 2-3 months. Several years ago, the Amherst Railway Society donated good money to RYPN so all former posts could be indexed for search purposes. Let's use it.

Yeah theres that. Or somebody could just give the guy the info he's looking for with up to date information on the rail preservation project that he went to the rail preservation dicussion board to ask about and then let it fall off the front page.

Or we could jump his butt about using a search function to look for 3 month old news again.

Sorry Wabash, 328 doesn't sit in my neck of woods so I don't know anything either.

I concur - it was a simple question. The link and even the suggestion was a kind courtesy and a considerate answer in itself though it should be noted the info in the thread is 7 months old as well.

There has been no change in the status of NP328 in the last 7 months. The MTM "shop forces" are concentrating on getting NP2156 back on its wheels.

Personally, I'd like to know what is to be said about NP 328, PRR 1361, the UP Big Boy, steamtown, 643, 470, new steam, and the idea of a New York Central Hudson replica.

Think of how many good people have come and gone now. Hume Kading, Bob Yarger, and others who read but don't comment unless it is really up their alley.

I'll tell you if I was moderating, the above reply by Dave Wilkins would have been deleted. Then he would be sent a warning. Keep it up and your gone. The same could be done to others...

To me, 2 of the best looking steamers around are the NP 328, and the SP&S 700.
Isn't the 700 a NP design?

Well I suppose that is possible. But I should point out that a thorough reading of this thread failed to substantiate your complaints. No one was rude, that I could see. You can froth about the future of RyPN to your heart's content, but it will not make the slightest difference in the way this site is moderated.

It is a delightfully free country, if you don't like the way RyPN operates, is moderated or whatever, you're free to take your business elsewhere. The Railfanning section was created specifically for freewheeling, off the wall, non-serious conversation.

NP 328 was actually built for the Chicago Southern, so it is not a NP design.

Brian, you couldn't have it any more right. I don't really go here that much because every good topic is always frowned upon or contains people avoiding the lead question.

What I want to know is if the MTM plans to restore 328 again someday as well as 2153 in the future. They certainly could someday.

I was merely pointing out that a lot of information could be found about not only the 328, but the other two NP steamers in MTM's collection by using the search function. Maybe I was not clear, but I thought the original poster could read those posts, and possibly add to those if his questions weren't answered. Even a "Hey, this post is 7 months old, anything new?" post in those threads on MTM steam would have been appropriate.

I also think it is unfair to put my reply up there with the reason that Hume Kading and Bob Yarger are gone. Hume left because this forum was shut down temporarily when the owner of a certain C&O 4-8-4 now sitting in Clifton Forge, VA threatened to sue the pants off of RYPN and its board of directors for violating his First Amendment rights (which do not exist on a private forum). I think Hume had enough and left.

Bob left because others, not me, complained of his photo posting.



Please tell me which specific terms of service or forum rules I violated? Keep what up?

David, I had an older account and it got deleted which I'm not sure why but people didn't like that I asked questions on either failed steam rebuilds or questions on current steam rebuilds and projects and everywhere around there. Never have I felt a more unfriendly atmosphere just for asking questions. I understand the frustration if it was on something many years ago but still doesn't mean you couldn't just tell me. Same with the 1361 thread or on B&LE 643. People on here aren't very friendly on those topics and everybody's a critic. I only comment or jump in on something I know, like the Kettle Moraine Valley Railroad Shop or current steam projects but I do also jump in to ask simple questions.

This doesn't apply to everyone but there are a vast majority out there...
