Switching topics for a moment, the SW1001, the cut-down-cab version of the SW1000, would be a prime acquisition candidate for the Reading Co. T&HS if they didn't already seemingly have more on their plate than they can handle.........

Considering only 124 were built, I'd say that they play an important role in the preservation scene. These were the perfect light duty locomotive, good for light bridges and bad rail. The CRT&HS would be another good group where these would fit in.

The North Shore system in central Pennsylvania operates a number of SW1500's on their short lines. Within the past year, a number of them have been acquired from NS:

With one exception, which is still in a black dip job, all wear a very handsome EL-inspired paint scheme:

In case anyone is interested, here's a photo of WP 1503 at Portola taken last year. Quite a bit of work has been done on her since but this is the most recent photo I have.

Number history is UPY 1042, UP 1317, UP 1503, WP 1503

UPY= Union Pacific Yard. A way to get more locomotives numbered with out going to 5 digits.
