It isn't a secret that success breeds success. I would venture to suggest that the overall high, professional quality displays and design of the museum makes for a lot of pride among the docents, and its popularity among those who wish to volunteer. Why not associate yourself with a very strong going concern? The highly trafficed location isn't any harm either, nor is the well managed program for attracting and making good use of volunteers.

I would like to hear more about CSRM's docent program. It would be great for that to be the subject of an article here.

Not a bad idea. Let me make some enquiries and see what we can do.

Perhaps the secret is treating docent volunteers right. That means showing genuine appreciation of their time, interest, and talents. It also means cultivating standards for how they present themselves to the public.
There are museums out there that still "don't get it" when it comes to the treatment of volunteers.
CSRM certainly demonstrates it's doing something right in this regard.

Thanks to all for the answers to my questions! And it sounds like a good primer on their docents program and overall management could be a great resource for all museums!
