At SFHM we have been cleaning up scrap rail from all over the mill site and former RR yard site. All of this rail is not salvagable for any use at the museum or on our RR so it is going to scrap.

In the process we have discovered several different dates of 60# rail, that were bought second hand by lumber company, mostly in the 1918-1920 period while their whole system was undergoing a rapid expansion. Some of this rail is 1874 T&NO patter 56#, but the most intriguing is several sticks of Joliet Steel 1886 60# rail.

We know that this rail was acquired in the 1918-20 time frame when the Colorado Midland was either selling scrap to stay alive or being scrapped out.

What I would like to know is if anyone on RYPN has access to a CM rail chart or knows where one might be found to see if the RR used any Joliet 1886 rail in construction in1886-1887 period. If so, this rail is probably CM and we would be willing to save pieces that show the markings for any interested parties.

Thanks

I know of one narrow-gauge group in the far Northeast looking for 60-pound rail.

Don't be so hasty with the torches.

Alex, if this rail was useable we would use it in our operations at the museum. It is junk rail, in that it is twisted, damaged or otherwise un-useable. We have culled through it
to find every stick that is remotely useable and set that aside for replacements on our own RR.
