A vertical color light is your run of the mill green yellow red colorlight arranged in a vertical fashion. A tri-light has the same colors but arranged as a triangle.

You nailed it! That is exactly what the NYC and GTW signals are! An interesting sidelight about the New York Central tri-color signal is that it wasn't located on the NYC, but on the Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville (Monon) Railroad! It was actually the northbound approach signal to the diamond crossing of the Monon with the NYC at San Pierre, Indiana. Since the New York Central was the latecomer, it maintained the diamond and thus used NYC signals (semaphores earlier and later tri-colors).

Nice collection! I've been trying to find a N&W dwarf for a bit now. Found one for sale, agreed on a price, then the seller just disappeared. It sucks about the sale but hopefully he's alright. Maybe some day I'll even try to track down an actual CPL.

One of our Conductors/Board of Directors/Signal Maintainer restored this semaphore signal out of Wilmington, DE. It was found in decay along the CSX Market Street Branch and he restored it to working condition.

I've seen that article and was impressed at the level of detail he went to. Those beautiful red gears get hidden by a big flat plate. You have to open the side door to see them. But he knows they're there.

Some giggle at the hobby but its like collecting anything else, you just keep searching for the more rare and obscure. My last two acquisitions were two different train order signals, one from the Las Vegas and Tonopah, the other Virginia and Truckee. One giant poker game where the ante keeps going up.

There are worse addictions...

Don't sweat it. I have a dwarf signal on the entrance to my bedroom lol.
