I was impressed by the appearance of the volunteer operators. Actually in uniform instead of wearing baseball caps and t-shirts. Having an education director is a nice plus, and including her in the video speaks to the professionalism of this organization.

Yes, that's very impressive. It certainly puts the museum in a good light. I personally would have liked to see more about the collection, but that's only because I'm in the same business. The summer children's program sounds very interesting, something it would be good to know more about.

But wait, aren't they teaching the kids about the GM conspiracy? :)

At NCTM we've been in the formal uniform for about 20 years. Volunteers buy the outfit from Muscatello's uniform shop to a standard spec shirt, trousers, tie and Eisenhower jacket. (Tie and jacket are optional wear in summer.) We also have retro name and cap badges based on a Capital Transit design.

Joanie Pinson is the third person to hold the part-time, paid position of educator. We have been fortunate that each of the educators we've hired has been able to enhance the program. Joanie's particular interest lies in children's books and she has expanded the number of titles in our our curriculum. One of my favorites is Mooove Over, the story of a bossy cow on a street car. The entertaining story reinforces counting and math skills.

Kudos to NCTM for their professional-looking operating staff. People forget, if you are a museum, you should encourage period-appropriate dress. First, uniforms convey a professional appearance, second it's part of the overall experience.
