Might they be able to get out of the hole?

More accurately, "will they successfully crawl out of one hostile hole into a more friendly hole?"

Remember, they're not soliciting donations--they're soliciting the loan of funds to pay off one lien. The debt still remains, unless certain parties have written off their "loans" as "donations".

I'm told another press release is due soon.

Couldn't view anything but the main page. However on the stb.gov site there's a filing for adverse abandonment.......

Link to the filing:

Actual verbage:
Quote:
This is to advise the Board that the parties in this proceeding are close to finalizing a mutually acceptable settlement in the matter and the parties anticipate that they will be in a position to submit an appropriate substantive filing with the Board or, if necessary, a further update within 90 days. We are authorized to represent that counsel for Stewartstown Railroad Company concurs in this update

While not as specific as (and far more reliable than) the the Facebook post, it is none the less encouraging.

One of the things I found out not too long ago is that this road's main line connection was--and is--right in New Freedom, Pa. Today that connection is with the Northern Central, a/k/a Steam Into History, which runs that pretty new 4-4-0. The connection is really very close to the station (and I think both roads used the station as a joint facility back when Stewartstown had passenger service).

Could there be some other connection there besides the track, as in institutions, trackage rights proposals, and so on?

If you watch the last few minutes of this video, you'll see just how close the two are: http://youtu.be/yMKPRXIsPfQ

Of course I encourage everyone to watch the whole video as well. A great look at the whole line from Stewartstown to New Freedom.

Just got to watch the movie, Jim, and the Stewartstown is a neat little road. Interesting to see how light that rail is, and the steel bridges, too.

I can still imagine, somehow, that the Stewartstown and Northern Central people will get together for some sort of joint operations. The Northern Central's No. 17 would look right at home on the Stewartstown.

Without being cynical or negative about this, I will point out that the Stewartstown RR at one point (in the late 1980s) actually operated passenger excursions over both the Stewartstown RR and the former PRR main line (New Freedom-South York), and then later had as a neighbor the "Liberty Limited Dinner Train" on the "Northern Central" portion of the line.

The markets were supremely different. It was sort of like having a campground next to a hotel, or a canoe rental through a state park next to a river dinner cruise.

Another step closer to being able to breathe a sigh of relief, and another step further away from the scrapper's torch. A good thing, IMHO.

Wonderful news! Now the hard part begins, making the railroad turn a profit. However, you've proven yourselves, raising significant funds in a hostile environment.

Good luck, guys. That's a beautiful little railroad you have.

It would seem that we have an agreement, a one page letter was filed by the Estate this morning:
Quote:
RE: Stewartstown Railroad Company - Adverse Abandonment - In York County, PA
STB Docket No. AB-1071

Motion to Vacate Decision Served November16, 2012, and to Dismiss
Application for Adverse Abandonment
http://www.stb.dot.gov/filings/all.nsf/ba7f93537688b8e5852573210004b318/ec341b5818bd647a85257bea006f5602/$FILE/234830.pdf

I trust that this has been a learning experience for all.
