I totally enjoy seeing the work you folks are doing and would love to see it in person if I can ever get up there.

On the front truck, as I understand it, a fab/machine shop made all the new components for and assembled the truck frame, ORX provided the finished acle sets and then you guys made the boxes and did final tram work. Correct?

With the oil conversion, the clearance has been reduced to about .012- .015?

Thanks Kelly for posting this update. I was wondering exactly how the oil lubrication works for the main rods? Does is flow down from a reservoir, or is it fed into the rod from the mechanical lubricator?

Kelly, I genuinely enjoy seeing your photos of projects up there. As a retired steam CMO and a lifelong machine tool industry person (Entry level machine shop through Tool Maker and then on to shop supervision) I admire the thoroughness and craftsmanship you put into your product.
Keep your young lady happy, she sounds like she has all the qualifications including the steam disease. Over the years I had several ladies work for me as cutter grinders and they were the equal of anybody, so congratulations for bringing younger folks into the fold.
Maybe there's a 12 step program that will help me wait for the next update.

I love these updates and similar postings such as those about 4501, 1225, 261, etc. I doubt it will happen but wouldn't it be great if we could follow along with the progress on 4014 once that project begins?

Tis true. No one overhauls a steam locomotive for transportation needs, not in North America, anyway. It's for enjoyment and history. While that is usually assumed to be when the engine is out running (and through magazines, videos, and the internet, the appreciators of their efforts is vastly expanded to many tens of thousands who will never come close to seeing the engine in person), there is also plenty to appreciate and learn about from the shop work and making this available to thousands via internet postings (and sometimes, commercial DVD's etc.) helps keep the interest high and generates new followers.

SR's late Bill Purdie was quoted as saying how he preferred the shop to the road. The shop restores, the road debilitates.

What we need is web cams at every locomotive restoration site where we can watch whenever we want.

I can see it now. Rig that up to some online system where you can only watch while you keep pumping coins into it...

Oh, wait, damn, I think someone might've already thought of that business plan. But then again, it ain't boilers they're charging people to peep at.
