Not necessarily. Too close to the magic number and people think "oh, they don't need my donation."

Most traditional major capital campaigns do not go public until after a quiet campaign has raised significant dollars, and once the campaign is public there are often no "tote board" announcements. See also:

It's also worth mentioning that there are very likely major parties with major dollars who have already donated or who will be, and that those major donations by themselves if announced prematurely would have the similar effect of actually minimizing the rather credible groundswell VMT has right now. It's still INCREDIBLY early in the fundraising process, so I don't understand the hustle to know what they have.

It seems like a few people have the attitude of "It's not on my coast so i'm not donating." I'm originally from PA, now a resident of CA, and I'll be donating for sure. Steam is steam people.

Regardless of what it may seem, the Fire Up 611 campaign is still running at full steam. From the information I have received from the VMT (posted on my Friends of the 611 Facebook discussion group) the quiet campaign is working behind the scenes to get big donors for the project. No names or other information is provided about these donors, to protect their privacy. The reason why no donation totals have been posted is obviously due to the major focus on courting these big donors as well as the rapid receipt of donations, which makes the totaling of donations difficult. There is confidence that the fundraising goal will be reached, with the plan to continue the fundraising into November if it is necessary. If all goes well, 611 will leave for Spencer before winter, with a hopeful return to operation this coming spring.

The announcement is still scheduled for the 31st. At present, there has been no change to that plan.

Well it will be interesting to hear...last time I saw the 611 under steam was in 94' like most folks and I was in Roanoke that day and I remember...it was a sad day. I am looking forward to the day when she is alive again as she should be, not stuffed and mounted sitting cold. The VMT has done excellent work with keeping her story alive and now they are doing even more, Thank you VMT for caring enough about a Roanoke legend.
