Hello Brett,

It is indeed amazing how NESCo has progressed and developed. Sort of like watching a child go off to school and coming back a competent adult. To say I have the utmost respect for Richard and the whole team would be a dramatic understatement.

Can't wait for the the next chapter.

Thanks, Paul. FWRHS was in fact one of several successful restoration/operation/management examples highlighted during the many lengthy discussions with the city.

the difference here 765 was a 1 dollar lease agreement, but you like me know the rest of the story how that works out, heh, probably the best dollar spent...

The engine is now sole property of FWRHS.

Folks, I appreciate all your messages. Please excuse my not writing back at the moment. I had knee surgery yesterday and am a bit out of it.
The website is a wonderful compendium of facts and information. Rudy Garbely gets the credit for engineering it. Pete Violette is a dedicated researcher. The man finds tid-bits of information from all manner of locations. Stephen Hussar is a superior photographer and capable of visualizing the "look". Leverett Fernald and Jason Lamontagne know more about locomotive systems and boilers than I'll ever know. And there are several others who deserve mention. It's entirely a group effort. It will get larger as time passes. I must be certain to mention Downeast Scenic Railroad and Maine Eastern, too.

More information in a day or two.

Third time's the charm! The Waterville City Council voted to sell Maine Central 470 to New England Steam Corporation this evening.

I hesitate to say, "the good guys won", but this is the best chance to old locomotive has had in 60 years. We will be signing a contact with the City, sometime in the next week. The contract calls for sale of the locomotive, payment for the locomotive within those two years, and an additional year in which to move it.

I want to first say, "thank you" to all of you who wrote emails. They were mentioned during discussion. If you ever wondered about the value, allow me to say, "Yes, emails make a difference", at least they did tonight.

Of course, with a turn in the batter's box, it is absolutely essential we make it round to home plate. We're not counting on home runs with which to accomplish this. Base hits will get us there, and we won't reject bases on walks, either. Metaphorically, I'm trying to state that a single big donor would be welcomed, cheered, applauded. I think it's far more practical to count on many players coming to bat and doing their best to come out ahead.

the fact that there's interest in the engine on both sides of the camp seals its posterity for sure. Having the engine operate simply will add to the heritage and its history, its a historical moment. Photograph its progress in earnest, we will love to see reports as you go.

I could not think of a more representative example of a Pacific so fitting for excursion service and a more determined group of volunteers capable of making it happen. Congratulations..and best of luck.

Great news. I only hope the new owners of the 470 own some rail accessible land, and have or is building a secure / weatherproof restoration shop, before she is moved. If they do, I would like to more about it. Thanks - Dave
