Another look at the first photo shows a parallel rail line to the left (east) of the B&O main, which is most likely the Pennsylvania Railroad in Maryland line that ran into Cumberland via Bedford and Mann's Choice.

Penn Central ran froight into Cumberland over WM until a storm caused major washouts in the early 1970s and the line was subsequently abandoned.

After consulting with a Fire Department historian, it's been determined that these photos match the incident report for Ellerslie Volunteer Fire Company's First Call upon them being incorporated as new fire department in Maryland....

EVFCs 1st call is listed as a 2-train derailment north of Ellerslie at "Fords Mills" in which burning diesels were involved.
