RR Museum of PA PRR MU

Does anybody know the story with the PC(PRR) MU that was at the museum,been
gone for some time now but don't remember reading anything about it being scrapped

It was an MP54 right?

I know others will have far more specific information, but in short, most of the MP54's preserved on Long Island, as former LIRR stock, have almost "melted" as static, post service cars. They rotted terribly around the sills and floors. The underside machinery crumbled. I can't tell you this is what happened to the PRR/PC MP54 at RMPA, but I'd just about bet money on it.

Yes, it was scrapped. It had deteriorated too much so that the rigorous metal decon required by EPA to remove any PCB's would have not been feasible. Fortunately that was not the case with the GG-1s.

Thirty plus years ago, Howard Pincus and I were talking about the feasibility of restoring one of the LIRR MU cars that had been at the airfield in Westhampton on Long Island. Howard, who is an excellent welder as well as a great photographer, put it very simply, "There is nothing left to weld to". I suspect that was also the case with the PRR MU at RMPA.
