I debated over whether to post this in the Interchange or Classified, but its not often that a car that is already handicap accessible comes up on the market so I thought I’d post it here for greatest exposure. The below ebay listing will take you to the sale of a NY Central (NYC) bay window caboose, #21044. It ended up as a Penn Central caboose and later as a Conrail caboose, always carrying the same #21044. Its a Class N-7B built in June 1963 at the NYC Despatch Shops up in East Rochester, NY.

In retirement it became a party room at the Mt Holly, NJ McDonalds and was modified accordingly. The interior is mostly stripped out, but what was done was to increase the size of the entry door for wheel chair access. The McDonalds has been renovated and the caboose was not part of the plan so it now resides at Allied Recycling here in south Jersey. Being a bay window caboose, the car can be moved on its wheels without the need for a crane nor worrying too much about height.

Allied would like to find a proper home for the caboose and not cut it up. If some tourist line out there was looking for a quick way to add handicap accessibility to their operation, this would be a nice option. I have no connection to Allied other than an interest in seeing the caboose not turned into razor blades.

Thats actually interesting as i am debating whether we can discreetly make 1913 CA 2516 ADA compliant by moving the support rod and making the RH side wall open by about 7 inches to give us a 3ft doorway, kinda be nice to do it and allow access to all.

Being a bay window caboose has nothing at all to do with whether or not it can be moved on its own wheels. If it is not roller bearing equipped, and/or if the brake equipment does not function properly, it will have to be trucked.

There is, however, a way to move a bay window caboose without requiring a crane to load and unload it.

I was NOT referring to moving it by rail. I was only suggesting that a bay window caboose can be much easier to move by truck without the damn cupola. Cranes are not cheap and a roll on-roll off move is much more affordable. Been there, done that. I know the difference.

The caboose was loaded with a crane due to tight quarters, but was rolled off the trailer during unloading in the yard.
