Assuming you're referring to WJP, he actually preferred black, unless it was something that was originally built as a passenger engine. 4501 was green when he got it, he was told to paint one of the consolidations green and one black.

No, likely the cloking mechanism has been turned on up in the cab.

As said in Jim Wrinn's "Steam's Camelot," "People just wanted to see steam on the gauge" although spoken about 611's first return to service, the feeling is the same today for 4501. And it looks as if today is that day. Congrats to the guys at TVRM and as part of the rail fan community I will voice how thrilled I am to see her under steam.

Of note, 4501 appears to have new steps up to the running boards. They have solid sides, unlike the old ones. The angle appears to be less steep, like the ones on 630.

There at 0:14 you see the reason why we do this blowing out. All the rusty gunk from the superheater units needs to GET OUT!!! and never be run through the new Valve and Piston rings.

I know it was posted somewhere that the rods were being re-done at a machine shop in Chattanooga, how long until they are put back on, and how do you move the drivers around in order to position them to the correct position, in the picture they look like they are all out of alignment.

A nut, some oil, and a couple of car movers. One wheel slides as the other rolls into alignment.

Which shop worker are you calling a nut?

I don't mean to bring the paint back up, but I would like to make an inquiry. Is there any chance of 4501 getting painted green in the future? Maybe for the 50th anniversary of the program in 2016? I never got to see her in green, and I know a lot of younger rail fans haven't either. Just a question to ponder. Again congrats to the guys at TVRM on their amazing accomplishment in bringing her back to steam.

I don't want to rekindle the color discussion but I do want to offer this - according to the paint drawings, Southern Railway painted their steam locomotives according to the type of service they were in. (emphasis added)
