The group's newsletter is
> another PR tool, in my opinion.

Excellent point! Our newletter has four purposes 1)to maintain membership numbers by keeping members informed 2)to solicit perspective donors 3)to encourage volunteerism (with thank yous and invitations) 4)solicit new members I guess you could consider a fifth to include being the eyes and ears of long-distance members.

What is the purpose of your newsletter and is it published on-time?

Mid-Continent's newsletter has three purposes 1)to maintain membership numbers by keeping members informed 2)to encourage volunteerism (by updating the status of jobs help is needed with), and 3)to be the eyes and ears of long-distance members.
The STEAMER! is published regularly, and to speed it's information getting to members it's posted on the internet right away after it's written, and is also sent via e-mail in addition to regular mail. The link below is to the STEAMER! web page.

The Trolley Museum of New York has two newsletters. We're terribly overdue producing either one, but new issues are in the works:

Street Railway Reporter -- geared more towards members and donors. Articles are generally more in depth and try to avoid jargon and technical terms without defining them. Higher production quality, lots of pictures, more historic pieces.

Volunteer Bulletin -- geared more towards the volunteers. Brief project status. Rarely any pictures (since we copy it on the Xerox).
