On April 11, The Huntington Daily News published an article by reporter Ron Morgan titled "EBT acquisition work continues" (subscription required).

The 11th paragraph of the article is this one-line sentence:
Quote:
There had been hopes among steam railroad fans that the EBT might reopen as a tourist operation this year, but those plans have been pushed back by at least another year as the search for funding advances.

Ron Morgan is/was a very active participant in the FEBT and the local history scene, to the point where his authorship this article would be a conflict of interest in a major newspaper. (My experiences in rural Pennsylvania, however, have convinced me that far too often the local newspaper office also doubles as the de facto county/town/area "historical society".) Consider this among the most unimpeachable of sources.

I asked this in another EBT thread with no answer so let me try it here:

Has anyone been to Mt Union lately?

Are the coal cars being scrapped?

"Has anyone been to Mt Union lately?" Yes, every weekend.

"Are the coal cars being scrapped?" None of the coal hoppers have been cut yet. According to the paperwork of the property sale the Kovalchick's have five years to remove them.

Ron Morgan is very active participant with the Broad Top Area Coal Miners Historical Society/Broad Top Area Coal Miners Museum. His support of EBT preservation is primarily directed through that group, not FEBT, though he/BTACMHS and FEBT are on great terms and work together. Frankly if Ron did not write articles on the EBT, there would not be much EBT content in the Huntingdon Daily News. He and another write the great majority of EBT articles for the local papers.
