It looks like I'll be heading up there in July while in town for the weekend.

Anything I should be aware of?

How long is the ride?

Anything particularly amazing (aside from 2' narrow gauge stuff in general) that I shouldn't miss?

For one, it is a decent ride. Don't expect to see steam, considering No. 4 is down for it's 1472-day inspection. Normally all three of the steam locomotives on-site are kept in the engine house, while stored passenger and freight cars are kept in the yard. There's a few in the museum along with the railbus and parlor car.

If you can make another hour or so from Portland, please consider visiting us at the WW&F in Alna, ME. We should be running steam and should provide you a good taste of authentic Maine 2' railroading.

I encourage any/everyone to visit the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington line. It's absolutely my favorite rail Museum line anywhere with perhaps the Cumbres & Toltec as a very close second. What is it about these slim gauges lines that stirs the soul and gets the blood pumping? Here are a few shots of my most recent visits to Sheepscott, Maine. Ayeah.

If you miss the WW&F, you've missed one of the state's best railroad attractions. Make the time. You won't regret it.

If you get to Waterville, stop by the Maine Central yard on College Aveune, and check out the 470. We hope to move her inside of the year.

Just tell me where to send some more cash Richard... I should be able to spare some from my next paycheck.

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad is open six days a week (Saturday through Thursday), closed on Fridays. We have trains at 10, 11, 12 noon, 1, 2 and 3.

I just got home from our first railroad art show at the museum, which was a success. It was held in conjunction with the Friday Art Walk in Portland. We are leaving the art work from our archives up and available for viewing for the remainder of this season.

As others have mentioned, all our steam locomotives are out of service pending periodic examination. With a little luck, we will have a steam engine inside the museum shortly.
