I attended the auction. Most of the GP7 locomotives went for $30,000, and into the hands of local scrappers, with whom I spoke. I was told the Geeps would be cut up onsite or at least locally. Terms were, if you intended to scrap, it had to be completed within 60 days. The GE's were mostly sold for $60,000, but a few went for $100,000+_ . One went for $10,000, sans PM. There were two GE's in great paint and these were probably the exceptions. The F40PH's went for considerably more, and they appeared to be the best of the batch. Many bidders left with nothing.
The F3A, #502, was not auctioned, nor was the lead GE from the Lac Magantic disaster, which is being held as evidence. I got a look at both locomotive in the backshop. The 502 is in beautiful shape, and needs very little cosmetic work, but is presently without traction motors. Stored indoors.

Not in the auction, but on property is a former DL&W open-end observation, which I helped to secure. This car was the victim of heavy vandalism by homeless in Detroit, even suffering a massive fire. Many nice fixtures could be culled. Restorable? Yes, but at an outrageous price. Owned by a private person who wishes to sell it. No, I don't have contact information, but CM&Q might.

Also on the property are several ex-VIA Rail cars and a former boat tail ob, all tied up in litigation from former Canadian American Railroads, from a decade ago!

Some active rail operators from other companies were present. Auctioneer kept identities private.

Basically, that's all I know, and I went only as an observer, not a bidder or problem maker.

Thank You Richard, I was just wondering what the outcome was for these units, about what I figured it would come to.

I'm not surprised the GEs went for more realistic pricing than what had been advertised, but surprised they went that cheap.

I just found a card I was taking notes on:

GP7u $30K
GP9 $30K
GP7 $30K
GP7 $60K

C30-7 $10K
C30-7 $20K
C30-7 (5018) $60K
C30-7 $35K
LLCX 270 $120K

That's all I have.

No, I was absent for the F40's but I know they went for considerably more. I believe somebody said something about $200K or more.

FYI - the GP7's and GP9 did NOT go to scrappers - there will be more information forthcoming in the next couple days!
