BGRM's Freshly Restored Paducah Geep

While I'm not involved at BGRM, an did not take the picture, I did see where they've just done a very nice cosmetic restoration on their IC GP-8, 7738. Perhaps others can tell us more. It certainly appears that they're working hard to get their act together of late. Perhaps there's hope for KY rail preservation after all. Congrats to BGRM!

The BGRM crew did a terrific job. The unit really looks great! There is a newly painted ICG unit at HVRM too, which our younger visitors seem to like. See photos below of the unit, both before and after.

BGRM has one heck of a volunteer now. Not only did he do a LOT of work on this unit, but he also laid a lot of new trackwork in the yard, or so I've been told.

That's a pretty slick paint job! I only remember faded, dirty, and rusty IC/ICG locomotives in that paint scheme.

Same here David. Lincoln is right it may not be just so, but it no doubt ran in Kentucky (under 2 class one owners no less) received a thorough rebuild there and shortline use there. Very appropriate that it be in preservation there and that ICG scheme really looks good clean and fresh.

New, different, and unexpected. I like it.

I have to keep reminding myself that railroad history did not end in 1960, especially on the IC/ICG. It's a neat locomotive, and probably the best-looking Paducah Geep out there today. I hope they keep it that way.

Looks very nice. My first Lionel locomotive as a kid was the IC GP9 from the early 70's. Although I'm from Pennsylvania, the IC orange and white is on of my favorite color combinations and I run my Lionel IC GP9 regularly.

Could somebody please explain to me what BGRM stands for?
I wish folks would at least in the initial posting spell out the names of railroads and museums. Not all of us from away are familiar with the initials on all of the museums.
And some museums have the same initials.......

BGRM=Bluegrass Railroad Museum in Versailes (pronounced "verh-sales"), Kentucky.

That's why you read for context. I know the organziation in French Lick, IN is known as the Indiana Railway Museum, but I almost never hear it refered to as such.

I understand that, I was just using those two museums as an example of how it can be confusing for those not from a specific area when only initials are used. If in the first post Blue Grass Railway Museum had been spelled out there would have been no confusion. Living in Maine I am not always familiar with the initials of every railroad and museum out there.
