Oh, I'm sorry did you have anything to do with the American Freedom Train, Chessie Steam Specials, or Chessie Safety Express?

Every time a topic comes up that has some relation to Ross Rowland, it turns into a hate fest. It has gotten old folks.

At this point the failures outnumber the successes, and nothing has been accomplished in 25 years.

How long are we going to pretend?

Not true, 614 ran those trips in NJ in 1999 so it's been 15 years.

I'll admit I do find it interesting that right after the trips 614 was put up for sale and since then she hasn't ran.

When one has the law on their side, argue the law. When one has the facts on their side, argue the facts. When one has the equities on their side, argue the equity. When one has none of these, then pound on the table, try to change the subject, scream and name-call. While he did not anwer my question, his replies are more than informative.

Mr. Rowland, while we have had our disagreements, I don't think either myself or Mr. Wowak have devloved into name-calling.

I think Mr. Rowland's account has been hacked by a petulant, 13 year old boy. I will notify the other admins to investigate.

A September 18, 2014 article in the Charleston Daily Mail: Greenbrier railroad project dies at auction

Here's a short excerpt:
Quote:
POTTSTOWN — The dream of establishing luxury rail service between the nation’s capital and the storied Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia — and of building that train in Pottstown — died on the auction block Thursday.

Ross Rowland, president and CEO of the Greenbrier Express, said the auction of the nine passenger cars, equipment, tools and railroad ephemera marked “the end of the Greenbrier project.”

A lot changes in 4 days.

9/14: "The Greenbrier Express has yet to roll down the line, but Rowland said he is confident it eventually will."
9/18: "Ross Rowland, president and CEO of the Greenbrier Express, said the auction of the nine passenger cars, equipment, tools and railroad ephemera marked “the end of the Greenbrier project.”

How unpleasant and bellicose.

Put a sock in it. Preferably tied up with a yellow ribbon.

An accusation of hostility ("bellicose"). What's the irony?

"If you are so inclined to dislike Mr. Rowland, please do it elsewhere or in person."

I objected to his reference to Mr. Wowak as "Wowacko". If you are inclined to worship Mr. Rowland, please do it elsewhere or in person. I didn't call him "Rowhacko".

"This whole bashing of Ross Rowland is well over a decade long on this website."

Objections to some of his practices and the disposition of locomotives under his control well predate ten years.

As a general rule, one can object to a person's PUBLIC statements or record without have a dislike. Hence I basically disagree with certain politicians, even though I have no discourse (electronic or personal) with them.

It takes a certain lack of distinction to assume every objection is born of a visceral emotion.

I'm hardly the only detractor. Being an unpaid digital bodyguard is more disturbing to me, and your indignity would be a little more convincing if you had rushed to Mr. Wowak's defense.

The auction went very well and I'm grateful to report that it raised sufficient funds to allow the project to end on a positive note.

Until the very last minute the plan was to save 4 of the 13 cars for a small starter train but the man behind the project decided that he was not in a position to fund that so he ordered us to sell it all.

Of course the team that worked hard on this were sad to see it end but on the other hand pleased that the 13 cars are going to good new owners where they will get the TLC they deserve.

One door closes and another opens !!

Best regards, Ross Rowland

Disclaimer: I do not worship co614.

Ross, sorry to see your latest endeavor end in failure. Remember that the only way to truly appreciate your victories is to feel the agony of defeat. Keep dreaming big! I and many others appreciate all you have done to bring entertainment and fun to the masses. It never ceases to amaze me how many ideas you come up with. Some work out and some don't but they are still a lot more than most people ever contribute to the world.

To those who question and inquire, I think it is great that you do an excellent job of holding people in this hobby accountable. It's extremely important that the lucky few who have possession of the many timeless classics are monitored to make sure that these treasures are available for future generations. The many museums, tourist railroads, etc. have to be held accountable to their fan bases. Wherever money is changed hands, transparency is essential. Sports teams have talk radio and so do politicians; but for us this is as close as we can get to applied pressure.

With all that said, I think that both sides have much to be embarrassed of in this thread. There is a lack of sportsmanship here and I think several public apologies are owed. Instead of working against each other, we need to start working together. I think the issues with the NRHS highlights this greatly. As someone who values the many diverse opinions, perspectives, and knowledge expended on this site, I hope that you all can shake hands and move forward amicably.
