Stopped by Kloke Locomotive Works today to check on progress on the Lincoln Funeral Car. Lots of work to do before April. See the pictures here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/41428530@N03/15416915489/lightbox/

All I get is an advertisement to join Flickr. Link problem?

Try this:

As Dave experienced, Flickr's been in the habit lately of redirecting to the Homepage when one links to a photo address, I've gotten in the habit of linking to the "Sizes" page or the individual JPEG addresses for this reason.

Very nice, and practical with the steel underframe and air brake. Are the wood walls also hiding a steel frame?

They certainly are! Photos from the 2015 Lincoln Funeral Train Facebook site:

Looks like the car or cars will have appropriate trucks, too:

How do you like the journal box lids?

I was not expecting all the steel tubing and plywood.

This is how we build replicas today that will remain robust and attractive in hard service and out in weather, a very different set of circumstances that a museum quality exact replica using the same materials (good luck with that), tools, craftsmanship and techniques as were originally used. Those are essentially works of art rather than machines. I'm pleased to see somebody doing this quality of practical working car construction to be used in modern service requirements without eliminating the appearance of the originals.

Some pix of the finished car:

From State Journal Register in Springfield, Ill.:

http://visuals.sj-r.com/150th-lincoln-f ... ay-1-2015/

Story from Chicago; the tour couldn't raise quite enough money, so the car wound up going to Springfield alone, without the Leviathan.

Other pix from the 2015 Lincoln Funeral Train Facebook site:

In view of the way the car has to travel, and how it gets handled, it's a good thing there's that steel in it.

Kloke does fantastic work and I can't wait to see the Lincoln funeral car in person. We'll have both the Lincoln funeral car and Leviathan operating over Memorial Day weekend at the Lorain & West Virginia Railway in Wellington, Ohio. Stop on down if you're available.
