I know it's just a dream, but I am just imagining how impressive it would be to see this one run, possibly in conjunction with 611 and 1218. . .but what would you do with it? Way more power than you can use on an excursion train, am not certain if it would be fast enough, and of course it's a big articulated with two of everything to take care of.

Then again, there were places 611 had to struggle because the train was so heavy, WMSR is working on an articulated just because it was one road that did need that power, and finally, there is the current 40-mph speed limit imposed by NS. . .

Still, what would you do with it?

With a enough money, anything is possible!

My question is, IF NS ever had the desire to add an articulated to its excursion program, which would be a more feasible restoration to support: 1218 or 2156?

So let me see if I can make sense out of that. Hypothetically speaking........there is enough love for the 2156 in St.Louis to let it sit and do nothing but if money fell from heaven there is not enough love to restore it to operation. The 1522 gets all the love if money comes forth to restore a steam engine. And if Norfolk Southern or whoever wanted to restore the engine to operation in Roanoke, the Museum of Transportation wouldn't want that. Does that about sum it up?

I think it's time for one of the "NNN's" to chime in here, but whose to say enough interest couldn't be generated to have the "J", the "A", and the "Y", returned to service? It's a dream of at least a few people. A nice dream at that.

470 isn't getting out of the park by mere "dreaming" is it? A dream is a mere fantasy. It takes vision, having a concept for the future and how to achieve it, to get things done.

Seriously, another fault in the proposal is this:

NS isn't "adding" any steam locomotive to its 21st century steam program. While they provide support, the locomotives that have been part and will be part of the program have had the bulk of the work is done by private, non-profit organizations (TVRM and VMT).

I think we let MOT make decisions based on their collections policy and strategic plans. Sometimes it's not about love, or enough money, but vision and planning. If that is NNN, I'll bring the pizza to our next meeting.
