I've just put an unbelievable color footage of the Charles City Western in Iowa on youtube. You can find it at; http://youtube.com/watch?v=rPyROEyfGgu This was taken on 16mm film and just prior to the abandonment of the CCW. I've added music and sound effects to it. Hope you enjoy the film.

Bruce,

Amazing video, good sound effects, but I hate to be the lone dissenting voice regarding the music. If you can, edit it out and listen again. I like 50s music, but I like trolley sounds even more!!! The video is so unique, I'd just rather have the sound. Somewhere in my files, I still have a pass for the Charles City Western. Never got a chance to use it.

I will have to check with the current owner, but as my faulty memory remembers, the "mainline" was abandoned in the 1960s, the Charles City trackage remained, and serviced a tractor plant, the overhead came down and the power was a GE 25 tonner.

Sometime it passed through the ownership of Mason City & Clear Lake (Iowa Traction) at least long enough for everything to get repainted

The closing of the tractor plant in the 1970s doomed the terminal operation, and all that is left is the Shops and shop area trackage now used to store PVs.

Should also mention that ITR 62 in the pic would be a 60 tonner, probably GRR 224. ITR numbered it's motors by weight and this applies to the motors still working in Mason City. The three 80T Preston-builts would be numbered in the 80's.

From memory, I think the ITR picked up GRR 222, 224, 226, 228 and LE&N 337.

Great footage! (And this comes from a steam guy!)

Of course, this very definitely was an excursion of some kind. I found the choice of a B&O drop-end gon for the excursionists most interesting, in that there is movie footage of an excursion on the B&O itself with two such gons in the train, which is assigned an EM-1-2-8-8-4!

I like the B&O gon too! Wait till you see the footage of the B&O maiden voyage of the "Cincinnatian" (that might be spelled wrong) steam loco in color and it's cars. I will post it next. Not sure when I'll get to it, but might be today or tomorrow. Bruce

I fully understand and respect what you're saying. The problem with doing that, is that I added the sound effects and music. When you do a final render of the movie, it combines the music and sound effects together. If I remove the music, I also remove the sounds effects of the trolley. This would be a 3 hour job, and I have way too many more that I want to get posted. Sorry - Bruce

I believe the fantrip locomotive is CCW 300, if so it is being restored at IRM.
