South west Michigan, New Buffalo. Roundhouse is there. Turntable was moved to Owosso, Mi. No tracks left going to it but you can see the row on google earth on the north east side of the existing CSX yard.

1958 2 stall GTW engine house in Muskegon, Mi. Full length pit. Original air compressor with riveted air tank (looks like a big horizontal steam engine), and still in use by the Michigan Shore RR.

Also in Michigan, the NYC roundhouse in Adrian survives near 840 E Michigan St.
Just west of it is the ADBF engine house. In fact if you zoom out and look at the track arrangement in the area, you'll see the ADBF-NS interchange is made more difficult by removal of a track that ran around the north of the roundhouse hugging Michigan St.

While we are in Michigan, I believe Grand Elk's Grand Rapids yard has a turntable in place.

Saginaw and Bay City, Mi both have partial roundhouses. The one in Saginaw still has an operating turntable and is used by a railroad.

Port Huron, Michigan: The office building and roundhouse that used to belong to the Port Huron & Detroit Railroad are still standing inside the wye now belonging to CSX.
The Port Huron & Detroit Railroad Historical Society now owns and is currently restoring the office building and have hopes to purchase the roundhouse in the future.

52. Great Western RY/Michigan Central enginehouse, London, ONT

This was a 4 stall roundhouse built in 1887 by the Michigan Central Railroad. It never was a GWR roundhouse and it has not been in railway use since the very early part of the 20th century. It spent many years as a fruit warehouse before becoming the Great West Steakhouse (thus where the GWR misconception came from) in the 1970's. It has sat vacant for 7 or 8 years since the restaurant closed, but it is currently under major renovations to become the home of two hi-tech companies. More on its history and the renovations with photographs can be found at http://londonroundhouse.com/ . The location in Google Maps... http://goo.gl/maps/rQzHT

Not mentioned so far (AFAIK still existing), probably because they are not accessible to the public, are the turntables at the Ivy City, DC Amtrak facility, located behind the commissary building, and at CSX East Side Yard, Philly, far end of the parking lot. Possibly removed by now, not sure, haven't been there in a lot of years, is the Brunswick, MD CSX turntable, located beside the MARC commuter lot off of Maple St., near WB Tower. I think there also was a turntable in Newark, NJ in a former Conrail/Shared Assets facility, I believe locally referred to as something like "91 Bay", I think part of Oak Island yard. I was there once to get power for the Juice Train almost 14 years ago, my memory of that is a little fuzzy.

Didn't Amtrak install a new turntable at Sanford, FL to turn AutoTrain power?

Is that the newest turntable in the USA?

Had quite a bit of trouble searching for this old thread. There was a 3 or 4 stall remnant of a roundhouse in East Moline, Illinois (with overhead photo) mentioned in the August 2019 (issue 23) "Rock Island Reporter" E-newsletter. I looked through this old thread and didn't see this particular r.h. mentioned, but if I missed it, or if there is a later thread, my apologies. The East Moline structure has had its turntable filled in and is now apparently part of a scrap yard. I assume it's ex-Rock Island, but there were other railroads that went into East Moline besides the Rock.

As a result of a survey conducted by NRHS, there is a list of surviving roundhouses at

Just an FYI on this one: while in use as an enginehouse since 1983, the structure mentioned was actually constructed ca. 1947 by St. Regis Paper Co. as a CAT/truck shop at one of their logging camps near Morton, WA. And, it only has one stall.

Also, does anyone know if the ex-NC&St.L roundhouse in Bruceton, TN still stands? The Google Earth imagery is dated 2015.

I think the bruceton roundhouse was torn down very recently, within the last two years or so. It was in pretty bad shape.

Subtract the Simpson roundhouse at Shelton, WA. It was torn down a year or two ago. The turntable was salvaged and is in storage about 7 miles from Shelton.

For whoever is maintaining the list, the facility in Glenside PA is a two-stall stone rectangular enginehouse, not a roundhouse. It is alongside the SEPTA (ex-Reading Company, exx North Pennsylvania RR) Lansdale-Doylestown Line right of way, adjacent to the parking lot for SEPTA's Glenside Station. Currently Ludwig's Antiques occupies the building and the address is 221 W Glenside Ave, Glenside PA 19038.

Per Google Maps, Coordinates are 40.102204 N, 75.106831 W
