Hello I know that I will get flak for asking but what did Ed Dickens talk about on March 7th? I know that this is a borderline topic but, I am interested as I dont have a trains magazine subscription nor can I actually find anything that even relates to what he said. This all being said PLEASE be respectful when talking about this, the last thing I want is another locked topic.

Lots of "Dickens Haters" on the Trainorders site. So much so that it didn't seem like those guys went to the same meeting that Trains went to. Just saying.

In discussions about politics, current events, and media coverage, a term was coined during the 2000s to describe the many folks whose disdain for a certain president descended into a spittle-flinging, vein-bulging rage and occasional detachment from reality at the mere mention of his name: "Bush Derangement Syndrome." This, of course, was supplanted, beginning in 2008, by "Obama Derangement Syndrome," the spectacle of people becoming apoplectic at the mere mention of the president that they insist is a Communist Muslim born in Kenya, among other things.....

And by now, I have seen enough "Dickens Derangement Syndrome" that I refuse to believe a damned word coming out of either UP or the UP heritage program's deranged detractors.

Someone please come back to this forum and give us a heads-up when there is something concrete to report that can be confirmed--a locomotive steam test, a court decision, a press release, a new executive hire, whatever. Until then, I'm ignoring the whole [BLEEP]ing thing.

Well said. When I see a comment calling Dickens "Dear Leader" or "DL" the poster IMHO immediately loses credibility on the topic. It is a signal that what you are reading has a distinct bias.

There is so much bad blood that it is hard to discern the truth. I am glad TRAINS is taking the professional approach. At the very least it balances some of the venom.

I'll say this: In my opinion, many of those so-called "haters" have the backgrounds to establish their credibility.

As for facts, it will all get sorted out, soon. But here is one that cannot be challenged:

There have been no UP Steam Operations since July, 2013.

"Jeff Lisowski":

But why do railfans feel entitled to know what goes on behind closed doors of UP?

Railfans ALWAYS feel entitled. But seriously, folks: It might be because UP was always pretty open about what was going on, what was planned, etc. Note the word "was."

To what extent is it your business?

In my case, I'm a stockholder, though I'm the first to admit that entitles me to nothing.

UP doesn't have to run any sort of Heritage Program at all, that is a fact.

Absolutely true.
