ATSF Santa Fe #919 2-10-2 steam loco pushing "The Chief"

I've just downloaded another one of my videos on youtube of the Santa Fe #919 pushing "The Chief" in 1936. Although it's in black/white, it gives a different view of a pusher unit. I hope this link will get you to it;

I believe that a sister engine to AT&SF 2-10-2 #919 was preserved. I think that these were the original 2-10-2 built, that gave the type its name of "Santa Fe". None of the later classes of 2-10-2's on the AT&SF were saved.

I know nothing about camera technology from that era (or modern either). Assuming it was a hand held camera, wondering if it was battery powered or wind-up?

These pioneer 2-10-2 Santa Fe type engines were built by Baldwin in 1903 and 1904 as Tandem compounds. The AT&SF simplified the 86 engines (numbers 900-985) from 1916 through 1923. Of the 86 locomotives, number 940 (s/n 23237 built 11/1903) is the only survivor.

Personal movie cameras used clockwork motors for power up into the 1960's

Yeah, they had battery-powered cameras but they were bulky and mostly only pros used them. If I had to bet, all my money would be on a wind-up camera.

The 900 Class lasted just about until the end of steam operations it seems. A few ATSF guys I remember liked the 900's on Raton because they just would not slip and pulled and shoved well up to about 35MPH..then things got interesting...

As the 3800's took over, they moved south to the Gulf Division and ruled the Longview Division until FT's replaced them. Evan might know more for sure..

At 2:20 there is just a glimpse of a mystery car in the train to the right-hand edge just for a moment. It's very light-colored, almost white. Clerestory-roofed. In 1936 it couldn't be stainless, or a 1939-Valley Flyer repaint into silver. Way before shadowlining. I've looked at it four times and still don't know what I think I'm seeing. I'm thinking run-through Pullman, but who would have light-colored ones?
