Risen from the ashes....Monon C-302

Stopped by the Shops of the Monon Connection Museum today north of Monon, Indiana and was delighted to see CI&L #C-302. Last time I saw her down at KRM, she was a serious basket case. Congrats to the folks who brought her back to life!

They need to MOW the track.......and I always thought it meant "Maintenance Of Way".......

The rail (yes, there is rail buried in the grass there) comes out of the Shop and actually ends just behind where I was standing. Absolutely no evidence of ties and I have to think that the soil and grass is what is keeping the track in gauge! So mowing in this case, may not be beneficial.

Agreed. There are more than a few pieces I'd love to buy and save from the brink. One of my favs - a horribly neglected pile of rust that rhymes with "See Freeze" - needs a date with me, a pile of windows, and a needle scaler.

outstanding job, IMO.

Thanks for sharing this Les. While I did miss it Saturday, I did take a walk through the yard at the mueum & got a few pieces of equipment on film. Nice to meet you & your wife and I much appreciated the tour.

Trust me on this --- I saw that caboose on Saturday, and it is stunning, inside and out !!!

I missed out on the yard tour, but I would also like to comment that in my opinion the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is a world class outfit with a very focused regional collection, and deserves much wider recognition.

Last but not least, Les Beckman deserves some serious recognition for his hospitality. Likewise it is world class and deeply appreciated, and I'm just sorry that we didn't have more time to spend at the HVRM.
