I know that the Florida State University boosters bought what could have been a business car from the SCL (it was an obs car to be sure) and placed it on a siding right across the street from Doak Campbell stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. It was in SCL colors at first but later was painted garnet with a giant FSU logo on one end. The FSU boosters used it as a clubhouse before games for the very wealthy backers of the school.
The display site is long gone and is a multi-lane road now. I left Tallahassee in 1998 and it was long gone by then. I'm guessing it was gone by the mid 90s.
In all fairness, I had forgotten all about it until seeing some shots of the Freedom Train's visit to Tallahassee in 1976 and saw a shot of that car sitting right next to the AFT display.
I can't find photos other than in this TO thread, near the bottom: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?18,3581110
So, does anyone have a clue what might have happened to it?

Anyone? I've been told it left in the 90s. I'd think it must be around somewhere today...

Since no one else has weighed in, I'll take a stab at it. I seem to recall that the car may have been sold/donated to some guys affiliated with the New Orleans Chapter NRHS in the early '90's, and they ended up selling it. I can't recall where it ended up, though. So this isn't much help, but it may point you in the right direction.

While I can't access the full-size photos posted on Trainorders, this mystery SCL car might be the second of 2 business cars which are now part of a condo complex located not far from EverBank Field (home of the Jaguars and the Gator Bowl).

The condo complex is known as Adams Street Station, and consists of the 2 business cars, as well as several cabooses and boxcars converted to residences. The main entrance faces E Adams St. at the southeast corner of Adams and Festival Park Ave., and is located just to the north/partway underneath the elevated interchange of Florida Route 228 (Commodore Point Expwy.) and US Route 1 Alternate at the north end of the Isaiah D. Hart Bridge. The address of Adams Street Station is 1738 E Adams St.

The other business car is NC&StL #97/L&N #351. Here's a photo taken by G. Gerard: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3888134

Here's a partial photo of the second unknown car, also taken by G. Gerard: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3888075

Doing further research, it appears that Adams Street was developed by former CSX executive Randy Evans, with construction completed circa January 2005. Manta.com lists a Linda L. Daniels as a principal in the company. The Florida Times-Union's website lists the developer as KART Development.

The "other" car at Adams Street isn't the Tallahassee one. I can see the end of it in this photo, to the left:

That obs car had a relatively flat roof and was a newer car than a classic heavyweight-lloking car like the one in this shot.
Wish I could find a photo I could re-post but that TO shot is the only one I've ever seen online...
It did look pretty close to this car, though:

I knew I had this info somewhere in my email archives:

The car was the SCL business car SAVANNAH

This is from a 2004 post written by Maunsel White on a SAL/ACL forum:

" I and a partner bought the" Savannah " from the Seminole Boosters in Tallahassee. It had beed used as a hospitality center next to the stadium where the FSU Seminoles played. It had previously been donated years earlier by the SCL to the University. It was displaced by stadium expansion plans. We craned it back onto live rails and had it moved back to New Orleans where we did restoration work for about a year. We sold it to the city of Collierville, TN whose mayor was a rail buff and SR fan. He asked that we Letter it "Southern" since it would be parked along the SR (NS) main into Memphis. We got authentic blueprints and did as he asked but left the Pullman green ( as opposed to Southern green) paint. All this was around 1990-91 as I recall. My partner, Pete Messina still restores cars and is the best around. He did the Panama Canal train owned by the KCS and many others. One of his recent projects is the former "White Oak' formerly of the Clinchfield Specials. It now is the New Orleans Public Belt business/ promotion car. "

Hope this helps p51!

Sure looks like it. Thanks, Greg!
It kills me that I was in Memphis 2 years ago, I'd have looked up the car had I known I was so close to it...

Just some updated information on Adams Street Station, which is now the River City Railway:

https://downtownjacksonville.org/poi/ri ... y-railway/

The interiors of what I'm thinking are former FEC boxcar cabooses have been redone beyond recognition as rail cars.

https://www.rivercityrailway.com/

Some older Adams Street Station sites are still up.
