Not to spoil the fun of guessing what next years NS steam offerings might be....but.....the huge issue involved will be how the railroad is coping with its current main task and that's trying to handle the major surge in traffic.

In my area ( Reading,Pa.) its a constant struggle to find enough crews, enough track etc. to keep the railroad fluid. There are lots of days where 3-6 trains are tied up waiting for crew availability to finish their journey into Philadelphia.

Unless the current glut of business either slows down or the railroad has hired enough additional manpower to handle it, my best guess is that any extra trains activity will be extremely limited if permitted at all ??

I work a regular yard job in Harrisburg and even on my off days, my phone is constantly ringing from the railroad asking me if I want to step up and work. There is mass hiring going on at a few major terminals in PA, so the manpower shortage will ease up once new hires mark up...

The recent Amtrak specials previously mentioned had hand picked crews, and I was one of the lucky few picked to be on BOTH days of trips. Didn't mind coming out on my off days to work it... ;)

Looks like 765 is going to Allentown, as well as Buffalo-Corning and Scranton-Binghamton this August. You will be able to board a 765 excursion in Allentown. Probably somewhere near the yard, since it will be going north to Pittston and return and over RBMN north of Old Penn Haven (NS owns rails from Allentown to Hazelton and is buying the CP lines from Sunbury, PA to Schenectady, NY). I heard from Rich there will be a 2 1/2 hour layover in Jim Thorpe on the way back.

Of course, the RBMN owns its own route from Lehightin to M&H. It would be great to see them go up the NS and back the R&N.
